i get a few messages a week from folks earlier in their careers, mid transition or stuck in their search looking for help. they’re desperate

if you're not getting the results you want, maybe you should just try doing better...

there's this famous line in a true american classic, brink (a disney channel original movie), where he's about to go compete in a major event and his sister stops him and tells him to "skate better"

blown away by the complexity of the advice he skates off and ends up winning.

there's a lot of lessons in that movie

• how to be a great friend

• how to deal with bullies

• girls can shred, too

• how to dress cool

but most importantly, how to take feedback

feedback can either be a blessing or a curse, and it all comes down to HOW you receive it and IF you apply it

feedback without application can feel like criticism, judgement, condemnation etc.

however, feedback applied can feel like opportunity, encouragement and a lesson learned. a lot of talking heads on LinkedIn criticize interview feedback for not being thorough or specific enough. however, in my experience it's not less often what's said and more about what's being applied (or not) that's the issue.

you have a choice to either view feedback as a gift or see it as an attack. what you do with it, greatly determines the value it carries in your life. I could have bought NVDA at $20 a share when a friend told me to, but I didn't. I could have taken a lot of wisdom, advice, counsel, feedback etc. over the years that I didn't... that doesn't mean it wasn't a gift, it just means I didn't receive it and the only one who takes the L there is me.

learn to love feedback and I promise you your life will be better because of it.
